So I just watched the DVD of my studio's dance recital, in which I performed my first ever ballet and tap routines. I laughed, I cried, I cringed, but all in all it wasn't nearly as clumsy a performance as I'd feared. I'm better now, anyway, and I'll do better in the June recital. I'd better--I have an eight count chene and arabesque all to myself so I'd better not make myself look like a fool. My instructor says my arabesque is the highest she's ever seen.
I'm only starting to learn belly dance but it's fun. We're doing a chiftitelli right now and I just feel all awkward, but I do love my hip scarf with the coins on it.
Arabesque in ballet is different. It's just a step where I'm standing on one foot and my other leg is extended straight behind me, while I'm trying to keep my back as straight as I can. But apparently I am more flexible than I realize because the other girls can't get their leg as high as mine can. I just watched a video of the Christmas show and realized I'm hyperextended while everyone else is inches below me. Whoops XD
